Introduction:

With the attack on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001, it has become of paramount importance to understand the origin, nature, and agenda of Islam. While there is no intent here to impugn the many peace-loving Muslims with the aggressive actions of the militant leadership, it is critical to recognize this most threatening challenge to Christians, Jews, and to Western civilization.

Contrary to popular understanding, Islam did not begin with Mohammad. Most of the practices still embodied in Islam had their beginning in pre-Islamic Arabia. Mohammad repackaged the pagan worship associated with the Ka�aba in Mecca into a monotheistic form.

Dry-Run Terrorist Suspects Arrested - Two men taken off a Chicago-to-Amsterdam United Airlines flight in the Netherlands have been charged by Dutch police with "preparation of a terrorist attack." US officials said the two appeared to be travelling with what were termed "mock bombs" in their luggage. A spokesman for the Dutch public prosecutor, Ernst Koelman, confirmed the two men were arrested this morning and said "the investigation is ongoing."

Should NYC Close Schools For Ramadan? - On the eve of Ramadan, the holiest month for Muslims, two major debates around Muslims rights are taking place in New York City. One about the "Ground Zero Mosque", the other over whether to include Muslim holidays, including the post-Ramadan celebration, Eid-ul-Fitr, in the public school calendar. On June 29th, the New York City Council passed a nonbinding resolution that calls for the addition of the two holidays into the school calendar. Mayor Bloomberg, who has the final say to designate the days off, has opposed the measure.

Moscow Suicide Bomb Kills 38 - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said militants operating on the Afghan-Pakistan border may have helped organize suicide bomb attacks that killed 38 in Moscow on Monday, Interfax news agency reported on Monday. Two female suicide bombers attacked Moscow metro stations during the Monday morning rush hour. Both likely had links to the North Caucasus, the centre of an Islamist insurgency against Moscow, the head of Russia's FSB state security service said.

88 Teheran University Professors Criticize Khamenei - Dozens of Teheran University professors appealed to Iran's supreme leader to halt the ongoing violence against opposition protesters, a pro-reform Web site reported Monday. The letter to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei - signed by 88 professors - was the latest daring challenge to the Iran's clerical leadership. The letter called the attacks a sign of weakness in the ruling system and demanded punishment for those who beat up students. It also urged Khamenei to order arrests over the hard-line crackdown, which intensified after protesters began chanting slogans against the supreme leader.
