Monitor The Strategic Trends
Introduction:
Modern Technology has made it possible for countries all over the world to possess the means for controlling their own populations and to threaten other nations with mass destruction. It no longer matters whether a nation is rich or poor, large or small, first world or third world. Almost anyone can make or purchase weapons that 50 years ago could not even be imagined.

IAEA Reports Iran Has Three Bombs Worth of Enriched Uranium - Iran has accelerated its nuclear program and currently possesses a sufficient supply of enriched uranium to make three nuclear devices, assuming it speeds up enrichment to 90 percent, according to a new report by the International Atomic Energy Agency. The IAEA report finds Iran currently has 22 kilograms of uranium enriched at levels of 20 percent, and a total of 2.8 tons of uranium enriched at 3.5 percent. The findings were presented ahead of a discussion by the IAEA board of governors, as well as the organization's General Assembly, which will meet in Vienna this month.

US Must Hold The Course In Afghanistan - The man in charge of the United States Marines, who has just returned from a tour of Afghanistan, has said President Obama's plan to start withdrawing troops next summer has given sustenance to the enemy.
General James Conway said that it will be a few years before the time is right to hand over to Afghan forces in some key areas. He says America is growing tired of war, but his troops sense conditions are turning their way. He said their only concern was expressed by a person who told him to not let the country go wobbly on us.
Ahmadinejad Ready to Negotiate - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad abandoned preconditions for talks over Iran's nuclear program late Monday, saying talks would start in early September regardless of the conditions he had set.
Ahmadinejad last month gave conditions for talks with the UN Security Council and Germany including their stance on Israel's nuclear program and Iran.
Ahmedinajad told state TV late Monday, however, that Iran would "follow negotiations" whether or not the conditions are met.
US Training Of Pakistani Troops Held Up By Distrust - The recent graduation ceremony here for Pakistani troops trained by Americans to fight the Taliban and Al Qaeda was intended as show of fresh cooperation between the Pakistani and American militaries. But it said as much about its limitations. Pakistan restricts the number of American trainers throughout the country to no more than about 120 Special Operations personnel, fearful of being identified too closely with the unpopular United States — even though the Americans reimburse Pakistan more than $1 billion a year for its military operations in the border areas.
Iran Agrees To Ship Some Uranium To Turkey - The United States will move ahead with its press for sanctions against Iran, despite Teheran's announcement that it will ship some of its low-enriched uranium abroad, American officials said on Monday.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said the US would continue to work with its international partners through the UN Security Council "to make it clear to the Iranian government that it must demonstrate through deeds – and not simply words – its willingness to live up to international obligations, or face consequences, including sanctions."
